Brux suggested these guys Protest The Hero (2008/01/28). Proggy metal, I am intrigued!

In the http://www.heavymetalradio.com forums, it was suggested that if you like good melodic death metal, you should give these bands a try:

Tasted

I heard the band RA today on a shoutcast, with a song called Sky that was heavy with nice singing (what a change… has the tide of growling finally turned?). The guitar solo was nothing flashy but tasteful. Is there hope Obi Wan? They've been around a while, and have changed a bit… not sure if they are the truth out there, but I really enjoy good singing. I think I'm just a progressive metal guy at this point.

Current

Other stuff that I've discovered the last few years (or have re-discovered) that I listen to a lot (in alphabetical order):

I have really been enjoying At Sixes and Sevens by Sirenia

On amazon, someone mentioned “If you like that, try these”: and here is that list:

Evanescence, Tristania, Theatre of Tragedy, Sins of Thy Beloved, and even Nightwish or Within Temptation
