Possible that we're going to Italy in May of 2009. Europecar has rental volvo wagon for $900 or so for a week if we want to go that route. Orbitz or going directly to Budget, can get an Alfa Romeo for $700, or basically $100 / day for the car, so that's not terrible.

SAS had us all 4 going to Milan and back for $2,700. I should have locked that in I think, keeps climbing ($3159.54 on cheaptickets.com now (08/08/2008).

United Airlines 936 from Washington, DC (IAD) to Lugano, Switzerland (LUG) direct on a 767, then Swiss air to Milan from here is a short hop or take the train.
